Pulmonary Rehabilitation

What is Pulmonary Rehabilitation?

Pulmonary Rehabilitation has four major objectives:

  • Alleviate symptoms of respiratory impairment
  • Improve patient quality of life
  • Reduce hospital readmissions
  • Maximize capabilities and independence

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program to help patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and other breathing disorders. This treatment approach is designed to maximize strength and endurance, teach techniques to manage shortness of breath, and increase independence. Main components of pulmonary rehabilitation include patient education, support, breathing techniques, and supervised exercise training— all personalized to the goals and capabilities of each patient. Rehabilitation gives patients with breathing disorders the ability to control their symptoms and live more comfortably with their lung disease.

Your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels will be monitored during your supervised exercise session. “I have recently been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). My doctor recommended therapy to improve my breath function and to deal with the aches and pains of a man in his late sixties. I needed to find a therapy program in the Southern New Jersey area. I am now stronger in ways that make breathing easier. Their guidance has led to life-style changes that have improved my overall health. I am very pleased that I chose Advantage Therapy. I think you will be pleased, also.”
